Ethics, Culture & Governance – Post Royal Commission

Our popular series continues to provide invaluable knowledge and assistance to the Coast’s not-for-profit sector.  Our most recent Forum addressed Ethics, Culture and Governance and was presented by Adjunct Professor Martin Laverty who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. Dr Laverty addressed what principles need to be established to compliment a not-for-profit’s good intention, what motivates good and bad cultures and what are the current trends and improvements in good governance.

This session also addressed the wider context of the three recent Royal Commissions: Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry and Aged Care Quality and Safety.  In addition, Martin conveyed the direction the new ACNC Commissioner is taking for the Third Sector in working towards their charitable purposes.

TESTIMONIALS

Below are recent testimonials from participants who attended Ethics, Culture & Governance session with Dr Martin Laverty. They outline their thoughts around the keynote speaker and the benefits to their organisations of the content he shared.

Dear Yvette

I am so glad that I was able to make the last forum. It was very well presented and I definitely related to Dr Laverty’s ideas on board governance for NFPs and the effect of board culture on organisations. The recent Royal Commission has unearthed such atrocities and has been challenging for me personally and to the church community as a whole. I am hopeful the commission recommendations will continue to evoke changes in governance and responses; including a strong focus on safe ministry procedures, that will influence the cultural, transparent and ethical environment of the church to restore confidence and faith in the institution. I am encouraged by the UK’s approach to governance and wait in anticipation for Australia to follow trend.

Thank you to yourself and Paul for organising the forums.  Looking forward to the next event!

Kind regards, Local Church Member

Dear Yvette,

I would like to thank you for the opportunity to hear Martin Laverty speak on Monday. I still haven’t absorbed everything he said, but I got so much out of listening to his presentation, and I think that there are a lot of good ethical principles in there for all businesses, not just NFPs.

Cheers, AC, Solicitor and NFP Board Member

Hi Yvette,

Please pass my thanks to all involved in creating the opportunity to hear from such a captivating speaker at the forum. Martin’s depth of experience and knowledge was inspiring; there is no doubt that all in attendance would have taken some valuable information from the presentation.

Sincere thanks to Fortunity for their support,
